Belgrade Day 1 - tasty meals and typical athmosphere
Arrived at lunch time and got to the hotel. It was a beautiful small one, located far from the center but a 3-5 min walk to the nearest bus station from where we could get the eternal bus - number 16 seems to be going everywhere!
We had lunch at Skadarska street - the party one. Most of the restaurants are located there together with night clubs and bars and the atmosphere is amazing - during the night the mood screams "party" in a traditional style - there we could enjoy the typical "pleskavitsa" and salads. In the evenings there are gypsies playing on their music instruments and drunk people trying to walk at the street - too hard since it's paved!
For lunch we choose the place randomly - they just welcomed us in the middle of the street and as the tourists that we are - went to sit at the terrace. Its' called Zlatni Bokal and is at the beginning of the street. The food was nice and at similar prices compared to the other "restoran" in the area. It turns out that most of Belgradians enjoy their celebrations on this street and we got a recommendation from a Macedonian lady who lives in Belgrade for a while - the prices here are higher compared to the rest of the city, but the food is typical and very good.
Totally agree and can support what she told us - it was good and tatsy and since we had other meals at places located there can confirm the prices are generally the same. Another food recommendation was for the places around the main street - Knez Mihailova street - also in the heart of the city with tasty options but unfortunatelly we didn't manage to try anything there.
Our lunch at Zlatni Bokal was very nice however. Here is what my food looked like:
It was served with onion to the side - I don't like the taste of it so avoid it at any cost, but believe it is a suitable match if you're into it. We also ordered French fries and ayvar - it's like a sauce but it's thicker and includes tomatoes, pepper, etc - it's red and amazingly tasty. Besides is the perfect combination with bread or meat. To be honest - all was tatsy and for everything we paid around 2000 dinars.
What we didn't pay enough attention to however was the timing - it's impossible to order food on Skadarska, eat it, pay the bill and reach the main square in less than an hour whoch meant we had to skip the first Free Belgrade tour we had planned. Nothing to worry about - there is more than one group daily.
The obvious tip: make sure to relax and enjoy the meal. The service and food in Belgrade are both nice. However only if you eat meat. on the third day my friend wanted to try something different and asked if they could offer a dish without meat - the waiter said: Of course, we have great salads! :)
