Lalaria Beach Skiathos
If you are planning a trip to Skiathos, you have most
probably heard about Lalaria beach. This amazing "must-see"
destination which is hard to reach but worth it. I myself was very passionate
about seeing it and have no regrets.
There is a number of options as many companies offer boat
tours. There are tours only to Lalaria and there are also combined trips. The
combined ones seemed great to me as they give the opportunity to visit Lalaria
and Tsougrias the same day so you don't have to give away two of your days for
beaching, but just one.
The combined trips cover both beaches, show you the caves (I
have never found those interesting, honestly) and also give you the opportunity
to spend time in Kastro. This is the old town where you can see the fortress
and there is a beach as well.
The cost is € 15-20 per person. The boats leave from the old
port at 10 in the morning and return at 17-18. There are different options
depending on how many sites are included.
I would love to go on one of the combined tours, but I
visited Skiathos in September so the weather was tricky and I had very few
opportunities. Instead of going on a combined tour, I went for the trip to
Lalaria only. The option was to stay at Lalaria for three hours, or to stay for
two hours, but also spend one hour in Kastro. However I had my flip-flops on so
it wouldn't be wise to go climb a fortress. Besides I was in the mood for
Lalaria. Kastro can also be reached by car. And my initial decision was that
I'm only going on sightseeing if the weather is too bad to go beaching.
My trip started at 10 in the morning, the cost was the same,
and we returned at 14. The boat name is Argo and since we booked the day before
and paid in full, we only paid €12,50 per person.
So now that it's clear how to reach the beach, a little
piece of advice for having a good time there.
Number one - shoes. Lalaria has almost no sand. There is a
little bit under one of the rocks it's surrounded by, but that's it. The beach
consists of stones and the water is full of them too. I was in flip-flops which
allow you to walk on the beach but you can't really go into the water with them
- there is a risk of losing them! So if you have a pair of those shoes they
produce especially for walking on stones and pebbles on the Greek beaches, I
would strongly advise you to wear them. It will be more comfortable to walk and
swim.
People on tripadvisor say there is no shadow at all, however
when I was there, there was a great natural shadow from the rocks. I did not
have an umbrella with me on purpose - I always travel with a lot of luggage
even without the umbrella, so thought that for the 3 hours I'm going to spend
there, I will manage. And I did. But get sun cream of course, just in case.
And by the way, there are no umbrellas there either, no
sunbeds, no bar, restaurant or toilette.
Other reviews say that it's so white because this is the
seagulls' toilette. Honestly, didn't see anything like that, but of course I
wasn't even searching! I went there to see the most beautiful beach on the
island and had no intention to look for the ugly and dirty in life!
The stones are white - huge part of them. And that's what
makes it so beautiful!
And the water is crystal-clear and you can see everything
right through it. Well, everything is mainly stones, but it's still nice –
there are interesting ones at the sea bottom and small fish swimming around. I
recommend using swimming goggles as the water is very salty. I usually bring a
small bottle of tap water to wash my face after swimming as I'm not used to it
being that salty and want to protect my skin at least a little bit.
The arc: it's at the right part of the beach (if facing the water)
and is really beautiful. I thought it would be higher but in reality is looks smaller
than on the photos. People would swim under it and enjoy it. No one jumped
while I was there, so not sure if it's a suitable place for cliff-diving.
But I'm sure the beach is beautiful, the water is just the
magic turquoise color you would expect it to be and is definitely a place I
enjoyed! And of course, too a number of photos - the rocks, the divine water
are just the perfect background and even now when looking at them, I can't stop
- the colors and beauty are hypnotizing for me!
