Thasos island - best beach spots
I'm sharing about the
beaches I visited in Thasos and tips and tricks about each of them. In a separate
post will tell you more about the beach bars.
At the top of my list
were Giola and Marble (Saliara) beach. I also listed for myself the following
ones and managed to see them too:
- Salonikios
- Golden Beach
- Paradise Beach
On the first day we went
to Marley beach bar. It was nice and this is one of the chill places where I'd
love to go back
Day 2 - Salonikios
This beach is wilder
than the other and definitely wilder compared to what I'm used to and what I
generally like. It was still very nice though - some fresh diversity and change
to what I generally do while on a beach holiday!
I am fond of beaches
with crystal clear water, fine sand and beach bars. Those that are crowded and
there are umbrellas and sunbeds all over the place, with loud music and nice
drinks. Salonikios is nothing like that - yes there are some type of tents, but
to me it all seemed like the perfect place for the holiday of the Flintstones
family. And I'm saying this in a very positive way - we were all on the same
page for this beach - it was the wildest we could visit during our
holiday.
Additionally as the road
to the beach is not the best one and the sign showing the way is a bit hidden,
this is a calm and relaxing place which can hardly get overcrowded as there is
huge space between all the sets. At lunch ran to the caravan that is the beach
bar - they had drinks, salads, bread and meat - all was good!
Tips & tricks: in
the left side of the beach, there are rocks and behind them - a mini-beach.
It's not big enough to sunbath and spend the whole day there, but it's calm and
nice - extremely suitable if you want to take some nice pics at a secluded
place.
Giola
Giola was the place at
which we had planned to see the sunrise. And it was truly great. We left the
car on the road and went down to the water on foot - if you're going to do the
same take comfortable shoes. The road goes in the forest, is all the way down
and is created from red fine mud - my white Converses ended up in in all shades
of different colors thanks to this small adventure for them.
If you're going there
for the sunrise, at certain point you will reach the locked fence - if visiting
during the tavern's standard working hours, it will be open and you can go even
farther by car. But at sunset in order to cross it you need to look right and
use the small door at the side - when we went there it was open wide enough for
a person to go through carefully.
The good thing in going
so early is that there are no other visitors - we were there at around 6:30 in
the morning and the next Giola-lovers arrived at least an hour after us.
This was not what I
expected though - I was hoping to see clear, crystal waters, but they remained
dark and nothing could be seen in this small natural pool Honestly - it looked
a bit dirty to me so I wasn't tempted to jump in even though I wanted to do it
before I go and was ready to.
The next two beaches are
very similar to one another and I really wanted to go see them. There are
Golden and Paradise beaches. The common in between them is that they're
both huge beaches with nice sand.
We first went to Paradise
Beach. There are 2 beach bars - one at each side of the beach. Instead of going
to any of those, we directly got sunbeds and umbrellas to be closer to the
water. And behind there is a mountain so this is a place which offers great
combination of amazing beach with large strip and clear waters on one hand and
on the other - mountain view so no matter at which direction I look - it was
all nice!
In the water itself
there is a small island not too far away - for me this only makes this place
even more romantic at sunset!
Golden Beach is the one
where I had the worst frappe and the service was not impressive either. I read
in comments that when you order from the bar, the set on the beach is free,
however at our bar this was not the case - obviously depends on where you choose
to spend the day.
The beach itself is
again large enough and sandy, the sea waters were more clear in the morning
before most of the people would come and what's more - you can go far inside
the sea and still it's not too deep - being a relatively short lady, this
is something I liked! There is also a big free zone so this seems to be a nice
combination of what many people may find attractive in a beach.
Marble Beach was the
place in which we didn't even sit. Maybe we ran out of luck, but by the team we
reach it, water was muddy and dirty and had nothing to do with the pics all
over the Internet. I really wished it would be turquoise and beautiful and the beach
- all marble stones, but this was not the case. The beach stones didn't seem at
all real marble - at least not to us. Staff was extremely rude and were
pressuring us to pay (12 euro) for the set even before we manage to decide
whether we actually wanted to stay there.
As for the road - the place
is reachable via car, however it's not a normal road with asphalt but fine
white dust and stones - it took us approximately 20 mins slow drive in a column
with other cars to reach the end.
Leaving Saliara we
decided to go to Makryammos as it was the closest one however by the time we
go, it was close as it was full. I guess the rest of unhappy people visiting
Saliara also tried to go to Makryammos - while trying to reach Saliara there
were so many cars coming back that I thought the beach was full as I knew it
was relatively small. However when we went there, it wasn't even half full.
This same day we went
back to Tarsanas beach and thanks to this finished the day successfully and
ended up happy by going to a place where we knew for sure we will have great
time.
