Koukounaries beach Skiathos
A must-visit while in Skiathos!
This is the most famous beach and on the island there are a
number of signs showing the way, a lot more compared to the road to other
beaches.
Honestly - there is a reason for that!
The first time I saw Skiathos, or even heard of it, was last
year. I was on holiday at the Olympian Riviera and wanted to go in a boat trip.
Of all trips, this was the most decent one. We went to Skiathos town and then
to Koukounaries beach and it was love at first sight! This is why I was even considering
going there this year!
The beach is fantastic - it's exactly what I think about and
what I imagine when dreaming of the perfect holiday. I love turquoise water, so
clear that you can see your toes through it, combined with the perfect golden
sand that looks like flour except that it's dreamy yellow!
And this is why I did like Koukounaries. It has all that.
Together with comfortable sunbeds and umbrellas that look like stolen from a
secluded beach on an island far, far away. There are showers, changing rooms
(not exactly rooms, but yet), beach bars, water sports and a fantastic scenery!
If you have been through the pictures, you already know that
occasionally black and white swans may visit you (Taleb, this is for you, the
black swan exists and I saw it and it was great!)!
And there is even more - the beach is surrounded from one
side by the fantastic, I-see-everything-through-it water and on the other side
there is a great pine forest. Thanks to it it's not that hot, there is a mild
wind and the smell of it.... I love the smell of pine trees while at the beach
and it was at Koukounaries that I first loved it!
I will stop for a while on the sea water. As expected, it's
very salty, which is why I am so happy there is everything you may need at the beach
- like shower for after swimming.
Very late in the afternoon |
It is not only so clear that you see everything. You can
even see fish swimming around. And that's without goggles! Once you actually
put on your goggles, you will be amazed! Everything looks so great underwater!
A whole new world opened up and I saw a lot more fish and they're not even that
scared. I wouldn't try to catch one, find it rude and useless, but I could swim
so close that I was able to see the different marks they had, the colors....
And the seabed is not only sand, but like small silver particles that shine
through the water and make it look like someone sprinkled it all over the place
to make it even more beautiful and shiny! Loved the view!
Costs:
2 sunbeds and umbrella cost €8
Different types of coffee vary between €2- €4
There is parking and it's free of charge. If you go early
enough, you may even find some shadow as there are trees all over the place.
