Explore Litochoro - Day 1
This summer I had an amazing short break in Litochoro so even though it's already been a couple of months I find it an experience worth sharing!
Day 1
We decide to have lunch in Thessaloniki. Turns out to be a huge mistake due to the awful traffic and huge lack of parking spots. After 12 km within the town looking for a free spot we finally manage to find a parking and leave the card there for "just" 4.50 euro.
We go for a quick walk to find the perfect place for lunch. There is a great street along the seaside with cafes and restaurants on the right side and the beautiful sea on the left however everything there is waaay to expensive so we try to go back to the center and look for a place to eat which is far from the tourist area. Note: Thessaloniki is a big tourist city so finding such a spot can be a hard one. We got to a place with sandwiches and a great variety of sweets and chocolate products where we have our sandwiches and quickly go back to the cars. Everything took us approximately an hour and a half and having lunch in a place with air con was amazing after strolling within the city dressed for a cold and rainy weather while the sun was trying to burn a hole within our long jeans.
This however brings us hope that we will have a great and sunny vacation which quickly proves us wrong.
We arrive at the hotel in a great weather and a very nice guy meets us at the receptions and takes us for a walk. Personally shows us the rooms one by one and then leaves us with the woman from the spa center who takes us for a walk within it. Looks clean and smells nice - even makes me think about a message but then a friend advises this would cost me from €60 for 15 minutes.
During this first day we're lucky enough to enjoy a couple of hours of sun and almost no cold wind. The hotel is mostly visited by Greek tourists which is hopefully a prove it's a good one- at least everyone hopes that if a place is popular among the locals it must be good enough.
The dinner is far from impressive- there is almost no variety. One of us doesn't eat tomatoes and they are almost all over the place, another person avoids eating meat so it's hard for them. Everything is eatable however is far from the level one would expect from a gourmet restaurant. There is no fish which I expected from a Greek hotel and restaurant and almost no fruits. There was one fruit basket from which I personally ate almost all of the apples and by the end of our journey it wasn't refilled with new ones.
After dinner we went for a quick stroll at the beach- it was filled with small stones- high heels are not exactly the perfect choice but hopefully the other tourists would be smarter when visiting a beach. Expecting a sandy beach is a high of an expectation when visiting Greece so be prepared to stay at the pool area or don't forget your flip-flops. Besides from this it all looks extremely beautiful and we manage to enjoy a marvelous sunset.
Looks promising and we hope that the next day will be at least as sunny and hot as this one.
