Mmmm... Whiskey

I managed to attend the whiskey fest in Sofia this year!

I'm very excited as I did manage to try different brands and amazing tastes!

Wooden Barrel in Paradise Center

There were many controversial opinions. For example - I tried Chivas Regal Extra which I believe was simply amazing however I was not really fond of the Auchentoshan however my partner believes it is an amazing whiskey and couldn't believe I didn't fancy it!

Therefore I got to the conclusion that obviously all whiskey tastes are amazing however which one would each person prefer, depends entirely on their personal choice and taste. I fell for more tasty and sometimes even sweet whiskeys.

Other of the choices I loved:
  • Lauder's
  • Jim Beam Apple
  • Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey
  • The Grand Macnish Six Cask Edition

Tasting glasses: We went outside for a smoke and enjoyed our whiskey at the top of the Sofia Event Center terrace

What the Whiskey Fest gave me:

I had the amazing option to try many whiskey types. If you love whiskey, don't fancy other spirits and you're a connoisseur then surely you have tried more than one taste and are familiar with what you like and which is the most suitable drink for you depending on the mood, food, cigars, etc. However if you're curious and want to try different whiskey types however are not willing to buy a whole bottle just for one glass and then find out that this is not perfect for you, the Fest gives you this amazing opportunity to try and find the best option for you.

It educates you. You have the amazing opportunity to talk to people who really know this or that about the whiskey. And just the one they're selling but also the different types and things like - what's the difference between scotch, bourbon, Irish, rye, etc. They know the perfect temperature for you to serve whiskey. You can definitely improve your knowledge in a very friendly environment and gain more know-how from real professionals.

Everyone there is very friendly. Indeed many people may have different goals when visiting the Fest. Definitely there are people who go there so that they can spread their knowledge, get to know more people, try different whiskeys, sell more of their product, get popularity, etc.... However most of them are in a great mood, very friendly and the whole vibe in the hall is amazing. You feel welcomed, wanted there and it seems like everyone wants to befriend you and share an interesting story or their own knowledge.

You can win a whiskey bible. I was totally into it however I didn't win. Luckily, other people did.

You can find the most suitable cheese for your favorite Whiskey. President had a kiosk on which a very nice girl was explaining details about the cheese and encouraging people to try the best option which matched the whiskey they were trying at the moment. There were amazing combinations! Besides this is another learning opportunity.

Match the cigars. I'm not a fan personally so I wasn't into it but it seemed like an amazing opportunity for the people who enjoyed cigars. A friend of mine who is a smoker had this amazing experience - after trying smoky whiskeys, was then enjoying a cigarette and confessed that the taste was amazing!

You can buy your favorite whiskey - they sell them at the entrance of the Fest so that once you find the perfect match (and finding only one seems too hard to settle for this option)  you can get it directly then and there! Also add the perfect cheese as well as carafe with glasses and you're all set to go!

You can visit the Fest more than ones - keep your bracelet and you're allowed to go back. Especially if you have more credits which allow you to get the whiskey you want. If you run out our credits you can buy more.

Master classes - didn't manage to attend them but was really tempted! They all looked amazing and very interesting so next year I'm not skipping those. From the pictures I can see that there were blind tastings and I believe that having an open conversation with a person who is completely familiar with the topic and has a lot to share is definitely one of the best ways to spend you Saturday or Sunday afternoon especially once you add a glass of whiskey. An amazing combination!
