Corfu - tips and tricks in short

It's an amazingly beautiful island and I totally love my vacation there!

When planning my amazing time though I believe I've made a couple of small mistakes which I want to share with you so that you can avoid those and have the bestest time there!

Those amazing views is what I dream for

  • First - accommodation
I booked a hotel in Notos which was an amazing deal, since the description said it was close to a beach and had great breakfast. Which is all true. And adding the high rating and the amazing price we got, there were no second thoughts. I was looking for a relaxing holiday - going early to the beach and then back to bed early so not a party vacation (even though we went to Kavos one of our nights - I can't wait to share about this one as well)

Pros: we were relatively close to some amazing sandy beaches.

Cons: we were very far from the main touristic sights - Paleokastritsa was approximately an hour and a half away, Canal D'Amour was 2 hours from the hotel.

My tip: so if you want to easily access all those major sites - book close to Paleokastritsa. On the other side - the beaches in the area seem to be pebbled - most of them.

  • Second - program
People don't really want to have plans when going on a holiday. I, on the other side, am a huge planner so I always have a program with all the major sites and the best possible time to go.

My tip: decide which are the beaches you want to visit before leaving for your vacation. If you would also like to go clubbing, make a small research - it's much easier to locate the places you want to see before leaving. The reason is that the Wi Fi signal is not the most popular thing around there. Do the same for the main sights as well.

  • Third - check the routes
Because it's one thing on the map and a different thing once you're there! Be ready for some extremely tiny streets and if you're using a GPS - don't over-trust it. Here is the "street" our GPS recommended:

Not really a road I would say :D

My tip: it will be hard to get around the island without the GPS support but check the routes first before leaving. Make sure you know the approximate travel time so that you can better decide what is actually worth it. Not everything is life-changing. And once you start your navigation, zoom out from time to time. When we went to Kavos, our GPS routed us to make a huge bypass - get off the main road and then go back to it. Which was pointless since there was no traffic in the middle of the night and it was not only a worse road, but also much slower. I decide to remain on the main road and saved a couple of minutes just for not listening to the navigation.

  • Four - traveling there by car
It took us more than what Google maps calculated. Maybe the reason is some of the roads it chooses, but still - when you don't know where you're going it's tougher.

My tip: if there is more than one car travelling - use walkie-talkies. We did and it's a fun way to be in touch with the other cars. Besides mobile operators can't charge for this :)
Toll taxes - if you have small change, it would be quicker to get by.

The perfect water!
